PRIN Projects of significant national interest (ex quota 40%)
Research Programmes of Significant National Interest (PRIN) are specific research projects competitively funded every year by MIUR. Projects last a maximum of two years and are cofunded by the University.
Who can apply: Permanent university professors, researchers and untenured researchers.
 
FIRB Basic research investment fund
The Basic research investment fund (FIRB) was established to promote the development of the country’s scientific skills and to increase its competitiveness on an international level. Projects are competitively funded by MIUR and are cofunded by the University.
Who can apply: Permanent university professors, researchers and untenured researchers.
 
Brain Gain
Incentives for the mobility of Italian and Foreign experts that have been involved for at least three years in a teaching or scientific activity abroad.  Teaching activity: contributions for Universities for special contracts with the above mentioned individuals for the purposes described in Ministerial Decree no. 242 of 21/5/1998 (teaching on first and second level degree courses, PhD courses).  Research activity: contributions for specific research projects to be given to those with a teaching activity contract as described above.  Contracts proposed for financing must involve both research and teaching activities for at least one academic semester every year. Requests for financing only for teaching activities without research projects shall not be accepted and vice versa.
Teaching activity contracts are funded in full by MIUR, while 10% of the research projects must be co-funded by the proposing University.  The deadlines for the presentation of proposals to MIUR are 31 January and 31 July of every year.
Before being sent, the proposals must be approved by the Academic Governance Bodies and must then be sent to MIUR together with the relative approval. Requests must be handed in at the relevant offices in advance, according to internal deadlines, notice of which shall be given in good time.
