Abstract

Research ethics in the fields of medicine and neuroscience.
The meeting will address some of the most ethically sensitive issues that biomedical and neuroscientific research currently poses for researchers, such as experimentation on vulnerable subjects, informed consent in contexts of cognitive impairment, and the moral implications of emerging neurotechnologies for established principles such as beneficence and respect for the person.
Research ethics in the field of animal research.
When animals are the subject of scientific research, the tensions between the advancement of knowledge, the protection of welfare and conservation imperatives become particularly acute. The session will address these issues, with a possible focus on the moral obligations arising from the vulnerable condition – often induced by human intervention – of the animals involved in the research.
