Description

The main field of interest is the study of methodologies and models aimed at designing and implementing Web applications and mobile inclusive applications with reference to the fields of tourism, cultural heritage, electronic publishing, training, and communication.

The essential components are the semantic, adaptive and social aspects. In the semantic Web, information is linked with a meaning, which is defined by a set of data and metadata, specifying its semantic context in a format that is suitable for interrogation, interpretation, and, more in general, for automated processing. A research query and a study subject is how, in diverse application domains, and also on different devices (either mobile or not), it is possible to effectively describe the semantics and the semantic interconnections among cognitive units, so that the navigation interface, the retrieval and the access and use modes can be simplified. The above cannot obviate from the research of adaptive user-oriented models, which, being based upon the interaction with the latter, on their preferences, needs and requests, can propose adaptive visualisations and uses of the system itself. Adaptivity is closely related with accessibility and, more in general, with inclusiveness. In fact, if accessibility requires diversified, usable and adaptive user-oriented solutions, without any barriers or discrimination, a step can be offered by the introduction of enablers heading towards an inclusive Web.

If this Web will also feature open communication and shareable contents, this will require an in-depth study of the social aspects, which are a subject of study both as to the modelling of mechanisms for sharing, and for the use of a set of tools that are typical of the Web (such as apps, folksonomies, recommender systems).

Within these research scopes, also taking into account the interdisciplinarity of the research, there is an active collaboration with many researchers of other Universities and of other scientific and discipline sectors, as well as with the territory, which amounts to a meaningful source of application case studies.
