Breeding Systems and Product Quality

Cluster

  • Animal and Veterinary Sciences (SAV)

Description

The Research Group carries out studies and develops projects that mainly concern breeding methods and their effect on the quality of products, with particular attention to consumer perception. Chemical, physical and sensory analysis laboratories supporting research activities make it possible to define, with the most recent methods, the main products of animal origin. Specific attention is given to the livestock industries of the local territory which, besides supplying high value products, are also able to ensure important ecosystem services - such as the protection of biodiversity, maintenance of meadows and pastures, prevention of fire or hydrogeological instability risks - as well as attention to animal welfare and health. Consequently, in addition to the studies on the productive characteristics of animals and nutritional and sensory quality of products, the research group is also involved in the identification, measurement and evaluation of these services, thus creating the conditions for enhancing the multifunctional potential of agriculture and livestock industries.
