Description

The Veterinary Pathology Research Group includes veterinary researchers specialized in the fields of general pathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and infectious diseases, parasitology and parasitic diseases. The research activity includes studies on the pathogenesis of farmed fish diseases (specifically, trout, sea bream and sea bass) as well as studies on immune response and parasitic diseases of fish species. The group is also involved in research on etiopathogenesis and prevention of vertebrate diseases (domestic and wild), and also deals with zoonoses, and the quality and safety of products of animal origin. The activities, over time, included studies, in collaboration with various organizations, of environmental pathology and parasitology of regional wildlife, with the scientific and technological knowledge then transferred to developing countries (states of Central Africa). The main areas of expertise are: macroscopic diagnostics of animal diseases including those of fish; histopathological diagnostics; the immune system, specifically of teleost fish; parasitology and parasitic diseases of domestic and wild vertebrates, including fish; environmental pathology of wildlife; healthiness of products of animal origin.
