Systems Based on Knowledge, Natural Language Processing and Adaptive Personalisation

Cluster

  • Artificial Intelligence

Description

The research activities carried out within the scope of the Artificial Language Laboratory concern two main themes (even though these are often dealt with by a synergic approach):

  • Adaptive Personalisation for developing and experimenting with Recommendation Systems.
  • Natural Language Processing.

Both are dealt with by means of multiple techniques and they are, in particular, integrated within the scope of Knowledge-Based Systems (representing the original field of interest of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory since its foundation in 1984), where the knowledge of the domain that is taken into account is expressly analysed and represented. Some of the recent research activities deal with the problems by means of sub-symbolic techniques, for instance Machine Learning, Deep Learning and SVC techniques.

Multiple techniques are being studied within the scope of the Adaptative Personalisation, including, among others:

  • Collaborative Filtering, Cognitive Filtering of information and hybrid techniques for implementing and experimenting with concept-driven Recommender Systems within the field of scholarly publishing
  • User modelling
  • Techniques for the personalisation of web contents and Web Intelligence
  • Analysis of social networks based on contents, in particular for studying scientific communities

Multiple techniques are being studied within the scope of the Natural Language Processing, including, among others:

  • Key Phrase Extraction and Concept Extraction from texts in natural language, in particular for several languages (English, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Arabic)
  • Multi-language framework for implementing and experimenting with key-phrase extraction systems
  • Entity Recognition within the field of scientific literature of the biomedical disciplines
  • Sentiment and Emotion Analysis
  • Part-of-Speech Tagging
  • Anaphora Resolution
  • Semantic Relatedness of concepts
  • Topic Identification and Sentence Classification
