Historical Studies. From Ancient to the Contemporary age

The Course has two curricula, Medieval Studies and Modern and Contemporary Studies. You will acquire a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge of the methodology of historical sciences, research techniques and linguistic skills. You will develop the ability to focus on scientific literature (Italian and European) and use at least one language of the European Union other than Italian (including specific vocabulary). You will also acquire an understanding of the complexity and variety of European history, starting from the historical and cultural developments of the local area, and broadening the perspective to the Mediterranean and Atlantic area.
After graduation, you will find employment in teaching, in the culture industry (for example, in tourism) and in research institutes (National Research Council, academies, foundations, research centers, etc.), in government and local bodies in the fields of cultural services, in publishing, and in public administration.

Provided students have included the necessary options in the course plan followed, the Magister degree course allows them to acquire the university credits that are necessary to access the training programs that are currently established to qualify for teaching in lower and upper secondary schools. Thanks to the high level and in-depth knowledge it provides, the course also prepares students to undertake further studies at the post graduate level (II level Master’s, research doctorate, etc.). The skills and knowledge developed by students during the course also means that they will be able to find employment undertaking key responsibilities in activities connected to cultural services and the cultural industry (for example, high profile roles in the field of tourism) and in research institutes (National Research Council, academies, foundations, research centers, etc.), in government and local bodies in the sectors of cultural services and involved in the conservation of local activities, traditions and identities; in publishing, both specific and in connection to the circulation of historical information and culture; in public administration, in cases where the possession of a degree in the field of humanities is a requirement to access managerial roles; in journalism and culturally qualified communication; and lastly, in all those contexts that require specific disciplinary competences together with critical capacity and the ability to communicate the cultural message, in particular in the following fields: promotion and maintenance of relations between different cultures on the national and international level, in social and inter-relational exchanges, in the recognition of citizenship rights; training and management of human resources within public bodies and private businesses.
