INFORMAZIONI SU

Molecular Medicine

The doctorate includes 4 different research topics

1.  CANCER: FROM MOLECULAR ONCOLOGY TO NEW THERAPIES,
2. IMMUNITY AND INFLAMMATION,
3. MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF CELLULAR AGEING AND THERAPEUTIC PERSPECTIVES,
4. MOLECULAR PATHOGENESIS OF PROTEIN MISFOLDING DISEASES.

The presence of lecturers from different fields makes it possible to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to the topics and issues under study.

The doctoral course focuses on investigating issues related to cancer, degenerative diseases and the search for new therapeutic approaches and biomedical technologies. With regard to cancer studies, doctoral students can collaborate with the Aviano Oncology Centre, a scientific institute that promotes translational research to obtain results that can be applied at a preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic level

The aim of the PhD programme is to train highly qualified personnel capable of independently tackling and conducting advanced research topics in the field of biomedical sciences and their biotechnological applications.

The fundamental training aspect for a student in this PhD programme is the daily relationship with his or her research project and the related experimental activity accompanied by a constant and productive dialogue between students and lecturers and researchers.

Students are given the opportunity to customise their training by choosing between transversal and disciplinary activities and are also encouraged to spend a period abroad to improve their research and promote international scientific collaborations.

Students have autonomous access to PhD Course funds to cover the costs of conferences, courses and consumables.

  • In the academic world, the PhD degree certainly represents an added value in comparative assessments for the recruitment of future lecturers and in some cases is compulsory.

    Thanks to the skills acquired during the PhD course, the following employment and professional outlets are envisaged, with fixed-term or permanent contracts:

    - Managers of basic or translational/applied scientific research projects in the biomedical field to be carried out in an academic or non-academic environment in private/public Research Institutions or Productive Companies in the biotechnological field.
    - Heads of coordination offices of funding bodies for scientific research projects: national or European agencies;
    - Editorial managers in national and international scientific publishing houses;
    - Technical managers in production companies in the biotechnological, biomedical and diagnostic fields.

    Furthermore, to help new PhD graduates create new job prospects, the Molecular Medicine PhD course offers training courses on intellectual property, patenting and the creation of start-ups to help its students become successful entrepreneurs in the field of biomedical research.
