Disciplinary and Transversal Formation

Information on disciplinary teaching and transversal activities

PhD students are required to attend (disciplinary and transversal) didactic activities at doctoral level that are complementary to research, acquiring at least 20 ECTS over the three-year period.

The Teaching Board grants the ECTS pertaining to the formation activities.

The Teaching Board assesses yearly the formation and research activities performed by the individual PhD student for the purposes of the admittance to the following year and of the thesis evaluation stage.

Disciplinary Didactic Activities

The research students are required to attend the didactic activities related to the area or areas and/or disciplines pertaining to the PhD course. Didactic activities include:

  • specialization courses provided by the PhD course, as per the yearly programming carried out by the course’s Teaching Board;
  • courses/seminars/conferences organized by the University, which the course’s Teaching Board has deemed suitable for the formation and research objectives of the   PhD student and for which it determines the number of credits to be assigned;
  • courses/seminars/conferences organized by other universities/research institutions/enterprises, which the course’s Teaching Board has deemed suitable for the formation and research objectives of the  PhD student and for which it determines the number of credits to be assigned.

Didactic activities can also be organized jointly by several PhD courses.

Transversal Didactic Activities

The University organizes transversal didactic activities every year, allowing to acquire competences that go beyond the specialized notions of the individual PhD course.
Transversal didactic activities are organized with the following theme areas: Cognitive and Interpersonal, Mobility, Digital, Enterprise, Research, Career Development, Communication.

Each PhD course decides which theme areas the doctoral student is required to attend, at least one course over the three-year period. The PhD student can in any case attend all the desired courses.

The courses scheduled for the current academic year, with indication of the credits awarded, are available at the link.

PhD students have the opportunity to attend transversal courses organized by other universities/research institutions/enterprises. The Teaching Board assesses their suitability and determines the number of credits to be assigned.
