Research ethics in technology and engineering.

The meeting will focus on the significance of ethically responsible research in engineering; a reflection that is far from straightforward, given that in this context the practical application is not incidental but constitutive of the scientific project itself. Issues such as ethics by design, the attribution of moral responsibility within complex systems, and the possibilities (but also the limits) of human control over autonomous technologies will be addressed.

Research ethics in the field of computer science / computing.

The session will address some of the most pressing challenges posed by research in the field of computing, such as algorithmic opacity, accountability in automated decision-making, and data ethics. There will also be a discussion of the main disciplinary codes of conduct and the questions that generative AI raises regarding their regulatory validity.
