Abstract
When we talk about research ethics, we are often led to think of a set of administrative or bureaucratic procedures that precede the start of a study. We think of informed consent, ethics committees and the protection of personal data. In reality, contemporary literature increasingly emphasises one point: ethical standards are not an element external to research, but an integral part of the entire process of knowledge production.
Ethics does not come into play only at the stage of data collection. It permeates every stage of research: from the formulation of scientific questions to the choice of methods, and from the collection and interpretation of information to the communication, dissemination and use of the results.
In other words, if research is a process, then ethical responsibility must also be conceived as a process.
