Abstract

The primary aim of the lecture is to outline the potential, strategies and challenges associated with the energy and environmental transition we are currently experiencing, by examining the topic of environmental sustainability in all its aspects. This will involve considering the main challenges of the past, the present and the years to come, whilst tracing the history of environmentalism up to the current climate crisis.
Furthermore, the lecture will focus on the ethical aspects of research, analysing the main impacts on the environment, flora and fauna, in accordance with the ‘Do No Significant Harm’ (DNSH) principle, which requires every project to avoid causing significant harm to the environment, flora and fauna, whilst promoting development that is compatible with the objectives of sustainability and the protection of ecosystems.
