Research Doctorate (Ph.D.)
The Research Doctorate (Ph.D.) is the highest degree awarded by universities in Italy and comes after the "laurea" (Bachelor, 3 years duration) and the "laurea specialistica/magistrale" (Post-graduate Master's Degree, 2 years duration).
The major aim of the Ph.D. programme is to provide the students with the best methodology to undertake scientific research and thus to get the necessary skills to work in universities, research centers, innovative enterprise.
Ph.D. is awarded on the successful completion of a programme of supervised research lasting at least 3 years and after the submission of a final thesis on original research. Ph.D. students will be required to defend their thesis before a panel of expert examiners appointed by the University.
The Research Doctorate (Ph.D.) start November 1st.
Admission to Research Doctorate (Ph.D.) is through a public competitive examination. The rules of such examination are defined in specific Ph.D. calls that are published in this web site.
