Research Doctorate (Ph.D.)
The Ph.D. is the third level of the University education following the first level degree and a second level of master degree. The training course lasts three years. It provides skills needed to practice research activities of high qualification in universities, public authorities or private entities.
According to Art. 6 of the “Statuto di Ateneo”, Ph.D students are students. They cannot therefore carry out any activity that is not directly related to their status, except as set out in the Internal Regulations for Ph.D. Courses.
Ph.D. Students of medicine cannot carry out health care activities if they do not have a specialization degree and insurance against professional risks.
To be admitted to a Ph.D. course it is necessary to submit an application within the terms indicated in the Ph.D. Notice and to pass an examination. The Ph.D. Notice will be published annually on our University website, on Miur and Euraxess website. Positions may be reserved for candidates with degrees obtained abroad or holders of scholarships from foreign countries or specific international mobility programs.
At the end of the duration of the Ph.D. course the Ph.D. title is obtained by the candidates after passing a final examination, The final exam consists of a thesis discussion.
