Objectives:
Application of the principal static aspects to steel construction. Verification and design of steel structural elements on the basis of the European and Italian Codes.
Acquired skills:
- Structural analysis of simple steel structural elements.
- Structural design of steel structural elements.
- Knowledge of Italian and European Codes
Contents:
Steel characteristics. Classifications of structures and design methods: Steel mechanical properties identification. Classifications of frames on the basis of:- the method of providing lateral strength;- lateral stability;- connection rigidity. (15 hours)
Structural elements: Strength, deformation and stability analysis for steel members subjected to axial force, bending (in case combined), torsion, shear. (10 hours)
Effect of shear on buckling load: Laced columns and battened columns. (8 hours)
Local phenomena: Buckling of thin plates.Web buckling. (4 hours)
Trusses: Trusses design. (4 hours)
Bolted and welded connections: Actual performance and methods of design of bolted and welded connections. (10 hours)
Steel-concrete composite beams: Basic hypothesis and flexural stresses calculation. (5 hours)
Seismic steel structures: More important steel structures in seismic zones (4 hours)
