Objectives

The module treats of the main technical production methods of a digital mapping and introduces the characteristics of the Geographical Information Systems, applied for the activities of planning, management and design of civil and environmental engineering.

Acquired skills

- To know the map projection theory of the italian Local Administration cartography
- To design, to lead and to verify the digital mapping production phases by photogrammetric survey
- Aerial and terrestrial Laser scanning survey and data management
- To create and up-to-date territorial data bases by scanning and georeferencing an existing map
- To know the technical specifications of the digital regional technical mapping and the characteristics of the Italian Cadastre
- To know and to apply Geographic Information Systems for planning and management of the territory and for the civil design

Contents

Map projection theory
Linear, areal and angular deformation modules,conformal mapping theory, Cauchy-Riemann equations, Gauss projection, Gauss-Boaga cartography, Cassini-Soldner cartography (10 hours)
Analytical and digital photogrammetry
Solving formulas: rectification, orthoprojection, stereoscopic vision, interior orientation, relative and absolute orientation of a model, external orientation of a photogram, aerial triangulation and bundle adjustment. Digital photogrammetry: acquisition and plotting units, digital elaborations and automatic recognition of the homologous points (12 hours)
Laser scanning
Measurement principles, primary data acquisition technology, analytical models of positioning, data filtering methods 4 Digital mapping Raster and vector maps, graphical editing, geometrical congruences, graphical entities code, graphical files format, classes and sub-classes, digitization of existing mapping: scanning, georeferencing and updating, digital terrain models (4 hours)
CTRN, Italian Cadastre and ex Austrian Cadastre
Characteristics of the Friuli Venezia Giulia CTRN. Characteristics of the Italian Cadastre: mapping, registration system. The ex Austrian Cadastre; probationary properties, Land Register (6 hours)
GIS theory and analysis
Geometric and thematic components, topology, entity concept, territorial data bases and management systems (DBMS), relational model, SQL language, GIS functions: query, overlay, and buffering (6 hours)
Digital mapping and GIS applications
Use of digital mapping and GIS for the solution of problems in Civil and Environmental Engineering (6 hours)
