Objectives

This course aims at: showing criteria and basic rules for dimensioning and shaping machine components, mechanisms, and simple mechanical systems; giving knowledge about theory and application of Computer Graphics, related to several 3D CAD systems; using a parametric solid modeler for geometric modeling and drafting of mechanical components and simple assemblies developed starting from the analysis, also functional, of mechanical drafts or observation of real mechanical components or commonly used objects.

Acquired skills

- Dimensioning criteria and lay out of single components and simple mechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of methods and tools for three-dimensional (3D) solid modelling of industrial products.
- Generation of 3D CAD models by the use of a feature based, parametric solid modelling CAD system.
- Realization of the product technical documentation based on standards and industrial production requirements.

Lectures and exercises (topics and specific content)

3D CAD modelling systems: 3D Representation methods with CAD systems, taxonomy and specific characteristics of the different systems; state of the art and evolution trends in reference to development methods for industrial products (2 hours).
