Building Preservation and Rehabilitation (Conservazione e recupero degli edifici)

Programma dell'insegnamento di Building Preservation and Rehabilitation (Conservazione e recupero degli edifici) - cdl magistrale in Ingegneria Civile - Integrato con Riabilitazione strutturale

Teacher

prof. Anna FRANGIPANE

Credits

6 CFU

Objectives

The course, linked to the course of Structural retrofitting (ICAR09), is aimed in providing fundamentals in historic building conservation (theories and standards), the knowledge of techniques, materials and decay, rehabilitation interventions for functional and energy saving retrofitting.
Starting from a general framework concerning interventions, the course then provides the knowledge of buildings, as far as it concerns geometrical survey, typology issues and building techniques. The knowledge of building materials is then considered, as concerning mechanical, technical and decay features. The course ends in considering technical methods in maintenance, recovering and functional renovation, together with the introduction to relevant case studies.

Acquired skills

- historical bases and theoretical references in existing buildings interventions
- knowledge about the analysis of geometric, dimensional, typological, technical and building features
- knowledge about building materials technical characteristics and their weathering features
- knowledge about technical methods in maintenance, recovering and functional renovation

Contents

Interventions in existing buildings: an outlook: The role of the analytical disciplines as knowledge instruments for the project in the sector of building renovation and architectural restoring. (8 hours)
The knowledge of the building: Surveys for existing buildings: analysis of geometry, dimensions, typology and building techniques. (12 hours)
The knowledge of building materials and weathering features: Technical features of building material and causes and effects of the main decay and weathering process, as related to activating phenomena. (12 hours)
Interventions techniques in existing buildings: Intervention techniques for maintenance, rehabilitation functional/energy saving renovation of buildings. Relevant case studies, in different locations and periods, will be analyzed. (8 hours)
