Objectives

This course provides the theoretical and practical knowledge concerning the main foundational typologies used in civil and industrial construction. The focus goes to the modeling, analysis, design and structural verification. The topics which will be discussed in detail are the shallow foundations, the pile foundations, flexible retaining structures and soil consolidation. The course will also provide an overview of construction technologies currently on the Italian and international markets, in order to offer students a preparation not only theoretical. The course should be seen as complementary to the course of design of structures, expanding and completing the issues related to the structural part of the building in contact with the ground.

Acquired skills

Ability to program the geognostic investigations finalized to the design.
Ability to design, calculate and check the structures concerning shallow foundations.
Ability to design, calculate and check the structures concerning pile foundations.
Ability to design, calculate and check the structures concerning retaining walls.
