Background The "World Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health", published by the WHO in 2018, focus on the primary prevention of non-communicable diseases through physical activity. There is ample scientific evidence that emphasises the role of physical activity not only in maintaining good physical and mental health, but also in the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases. In this context, the Centro Studi Sport di Montagna in Gemona (CSSM) and the Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Friuli Centrale (ASUFC) have launched the PROFITNESS project to promote, prescribe and manage the physical activity of the people involved as a tool for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Methods The main objectives of my thesis are: i) to analyse the effects of the training protocol on the physical capacities and body composition of the subjects who participated in the training protocol. The training protocol consists of: first, a visit with the sports physicians for the cardiopulmonary and functional tests. After that, follows a period of supervised training in the hospital's fitness centre and a new test battery before leaving the hospital. ii) Comparison of different groups of subjects and different training protocols to determine what works best to improve the subjects' physical capacities and body composition. Results We expect that subjects with more frequent and specific training will achieve better results in terms of cardiovascular and functional fitness. |
