INTERREG ITA-SLO - UE LI JE II - Olio d'oliva: il simbolo della qualità nell'area transfrontaliera
The main objective of the project is to promote the growth of the olive sector in order to improve the quality of olive growing in the cross-border area involving the provinces of Trieste, Gorizia, Udine and Pordenone (Italy), Goriška Brda and the Vipava Valley (Slovenia), and the provinces of Treviso, Padua and Ravenna (Italy). The project’s work involves: the conservation and development of indigenous olive varieties, carrying out studies and research into the potential for olive growing, a study into the suitability of regions for olive cultivation, the creation of a ‘cross-border panel’ for the sensory analysis of olive oils, training operators in the sector, the drafting of guidelines for the production of high-quality olive oils, and the selection of a marketing strategy for the development of the UE-LI-JE brand. In the project area the tradition of olive oil industry development is spreading fast. There are more and more olive tree growers and increasing awareness about the importance of this culture is ever more present. This presents an urgent reason for an organised approach to olive oil production and marketing and to building recognition among the general public. During last three years, in the framework of the project, several actions aimed to meet the needs of olive oil industry were implemented. The actions can be grouped in the following six thematic areas: • environment and territory (Olive growing land; Socio-economic analysis); • study and conservation of the indigenous plant varieties; • actions aimed at increasing product quality in the area; • studies and research on olive oil; • value increase of the oil and the area; • involvement of the area's key players.
