Training Project

Cycle XL

The training project for each doctoral student consists of
a) in the development, under the guidance of the Supervisor indicated by the College at the time of admission to the course, of an individual research programme referring to a specific disciplinary field among those on which the Course is focused
b) attending (and passing the final examination) doctoral-level teaching activities chosen from those planned annually by the Board of teachers of the PhD course, for at least 18 CFU during the three-year period.

Each doctoral student is required to attend the intercurricular seminar and the seminar of his/her curriculum each year. Each training activity is calculated at 0.125CFU/hour.

Intercurricular Seminar 2024-25 (24 hours, 3 CFU)
Teaching period: November-December 2024, January-February and May-June 2025
- Lecture and seminar series held by external lecturers on DIUM and ARIC funds, 20 hours, 2,5 CFU
- Multitypological Archives (Brunetti), 4 hours, 0,5 CFU

Curricular seminar: History of Art (24 hours, 3,25 CFU)
Teaching period: January-February 2025, May-June 2025
- History of medieval art (Bolgia) History of modern art (Borean, De Feo, Fumagalli)
- History of Contemporary Art (Del Puppo, Nicoletti)
- History of architecture (Lanzarini, Foramitti, Sambin)
- Museology and art criticism (Levi, Visentin)

Curricular seminar: Cinema, Audiovisual Media and Music (24 hours, 3 CFU)
Teaching period: January-February 2025, May-June 2025
- History of cinema (Pitassio, Venturini, Comand)
- Musicology and History of Music (Calabretto, Cossettini)
- Digital Environments and New Media (Saba, Mariani)

Transversal teaching
Each PhD student is required to attend courses scheduled annually by the Research Services Area in the following areas:
- Mobility 5 CFU (replaceable with eligible English exam);
- 3 CFU to be obtained in the following areas of the doctoral students' choice, attending at least one activity per area: Research, Communication, Cognitive and Interpersonal, Digital.

- Knowledge and understanding: in each of the disciplinary segments within which the research project is conducted, the goal is knowledge at the highest level of current status and the ability to understand and measure up to international scientific literature. 
- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: research methodologies and tools must be applied to individual case studies with full effectiveness. 
- Autonomy of judgment: it is essential that individual doctoral students possess a spirit of independent evaluation, critical judgment, self-evaluation and revision skills. 
- Communication skills: proven ability to exhibit research outputs in the mastery of recognized formats (academic writing, lectures, speeches, debates) 
- Learning skills: mastery of tools and methodologies must be aimed at constant and continuous ability to update in the content of one's discipline.

Evaluation of the completed teaching activities (also on the basis of the PhDNotebook), on the basis of a final written test assigned on a subject from the annual disciplinary and interdisciplinary seminars, as per the programme established by the College by 30 September each year.


The PhD course also organizes every year a series of conferences and seminar activities that add to the overall educational offer:

- FilmForum and MAGIS - International Film Studies Spring School (March 2025).
 -Meetings promoted by the Fondazione Ado Furlan.
- Joint initiatives with the Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3 University, within the frame work of the implementation protocol.

The PhD student also has the opportunity to follow one or more courses among those offered in the Master's Degree Courses in History of Art (LM89) and Sciences of Visual Heritage and Media Education (LM 65). The attendance (and passing any final tests) of transversal courses organized by other universities / research bodies / companies is allowed, too. Contents, duration and accreditation in ECTS credits are tracked by means of the PhDNotebook.

The awarding of ECTS credits, which can be acquired by attending courses and other educational activities, is carried out by the Supervisors participating in the Academic Board, who authorize the attendance through the PhD Notebook and evaluate the results.
