42nd CYCLE TRAINING PROGRAM
The training program of the Doctoral Course in Law for Innovation in the European Legal Area, 42nd Cycle, is structured around two curricula, accompanied by a common training program to support research.
The doctoral student's training program consists of:
a) the development, under the guidance of the Supervisor, of an individual research program related to a specific disciplinary area among those on which the Course focuses;
b) attendance at doctoral-level teaching activities complementary to the research, amounting to no less than
30 credits. The recognition of credits, which can be acquired by attending courses and other training activities, is carried out by the Teaching Board, which authorizes attendance and evaluates the results. The teaching activities, which may also be organized jointly between several courses, also include training activities aimed at supporting research and providing tools to shape the professional identity of future PhD graduates. In particular:
- At least 9 credits
by attending (and passing any final exams) four specialized courses of a general nature and in the relevant area and discipline, chosen from those scheduled annually by the Doctoral Program Teaching Committee - At least 10 credits
by attending (and passing any final exams) cross-disciplinary courses/seminars, chosen from those scheduled annually by the University, the Research Training Office, or other institutions, associations, and universities. The Academic English course (5 credits) is compulsory, except for doctoral students who may request a justified exemption from the Board. - At least 11 credits
through participation in seminars and conferences organized by the two affiliated institutions or by other bodies, associations, and universities.
The individual research program concludes with the writing of a thesis. The thesis, written in Italian or English, must contribute to the advancement of knowledge or methodologies in the chosen field of study.
The Faculty Board evaluates the training and research activities carried out by individual doctoral students on an annual basis for the purposes of admission to the following year and the thesis evaluation phase.
The Board assigns one credit to 7 hours of classroom teaching (lectures, seminars, conferences) and requires a minimum commitment of 30 credits over the three-year period, in accordance with Article 5, paragraph 2, letter b) for activities offered at the PhD program locations. Optional activities (disciplinary and cross-disciplinary) organized by external parties will count as credits, subject to approval by the supervisor, who will verify the consistency of the activities with the doctoral student's research path and define the credit equivalence based on the table below.
