Italian tax code
Italian tax code
Students coming from European Union countries who wish to study in Italy must obtain an Italian tax code (codice fiscale) in order to complete administrative procedures and access many services, such as university enrolment, payment of fees, signing contracts (rent, utilities, phone), opening a bank account, and enrolling in the national health service (SSN).
The tax code can be requested at the Italian diplomatic authorities in the student’s home country or obtained free of charge at the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle Entrate) by presenting a valid identity document (ID card or passport) and submitting the form AA4/8. Further information on the tax code is available on the Agenzia delle Entrate website.
