The PhD student's training project consists of:
- in the development, under the guidance of the Supervisor, of an individual research programme referring to a specific disciplinary field among those on which the Course is focused;
- attendance of doctoral-level teaching activities complementary to the research, not less than 20 CFU. The recognition of CFUs, which may be acquired by attending lectures and other educational activities, is carried out by the Board of Teachers, which authorises attendance and assesses the results. The didactic activities, which may also be organised jointly among several Courses, also include training activities aimed at supporting research activities and providing tools to outline the professional identity of future PhDs.
The PhD course in Food Science provides for the acquisition of
AT LEAST 13 CFU
- by attending and passing the final examinations of specialist courses in the area and discipline of reference, chosen from those scheduled annually by the Board of teachers of the PhD course (Experimental and modelling methodologies, Requirements, recommendations and criteria for a healthy diet, Research ethics, Food development using a food structure design approach, Assessment of the nutritional characteristics of foods, Omics sciences) and by passing the journal club (critical presentation of a scientific paper) and data club (presentation of the PhD student's research activity). The doctoral study manifesto highlights the courses planned for the academic year with an indication of the CFUs allocated (see the study manifesto in the box)
- by attending (and passing any final exams) specialist courses, seminars, workshops and summer schools in the area and discipline of reference, organised by the University or other universities/research bodies/companies. The Board of Lecturers assesses the suitability of these activities with respect to the student's training and research objectives and establishes the number of credits to be awarded
- participation in conferences and the presentation of the results of the research conducted during the PhD.
AT LEAST 7 CFU
- by attending (and passing any final tests) transversal courses/seminars chosen from those scheduled annually by the University in the areas of English language, Mobility, Research, Communication, Career development, Enterprise, Digital, Cognitive and Interpersonal. The courses scheduled for the current year, with an indication of the CFUs allocated, are available at https://www.uniud.it/it/ricerca/bacheca-ricercatori/iniziative-ricerca.
- by attending (and passing any final tests) courses/seminars/conferences organised by the University. The Board of Lecturers assesses the suitability of these activities with respect to the student's training and research objectives and establishes the number of credits to be awarded
- by attending (and passing any final tests) cross-curricular courses organised by other universities/research institutes/companies. The Board of Lecturers assesses the suitability of these activities in relation to the student's training and research objectives and establishes the number of credits to be awarded.
The individual research programme ends with the writing of the thesis. The thesis, written in English, must contribute to the advancement of knowledge or methodologies in the chosen field of investigation.
The Ph.D. Board assesses the training and research activity carried out by individual doctoral students on an annual basis with a view to admission to the following year and to the thesis assessment stage.
