TRAINEE RESEARCHERS

They represent the first level of entry into a research career. They carry out research activities under supervision, acquire advanced methodological and disciplinary skills, and contribute to the university’s scientific output by integrating academic training with practical experience.

YOUNG RESEARCHERS

These profiles operate with increasing autonomy, take part in the planning and development of scientific activities, contribute to project management, and often play key roles in laboratory activities.
  • Purpose: Introduction to research and innovation under the supervision of a tutor.
  • Position profile: R1
  • Duration: From 1 year to 3 years, extendable and renewable (up to a maximum limit of 3 years).
    When calculating the overall maximum duration of 3 years, periods of maternity or paternity leave or health-related absences are not taken into account.
    The maximum limits may be waived for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).
  • Eligibility requirements for participation in the selection procedures:
    • Master’s degree or single-cycle degree awarded no more than six years prior, and a CV suitable for supporting research activities
    • Age under 40 years (not reached on the closing date of the call)
    • Any additional requirements specified in the call
  • Grounds for exclusion from the selection procedures:
    • Permanent staff employed by universities and public research institutions
    • Having held RTT contracts
    • Having held research appointments for a period which, when added to the duration of the appointment covered by the call, is equal to or exceeds three years
  • Incompatibilities:
    • Holding research grants pursuant to Article 22 of Law 240/2010 (version prior to Law 79/2022)
    • Holding doctoral scholarships or other study grants, except for international mobility purposes
    • Enrolment in bachelor’s, specialist or master’s degree programmes, doctoral programmes, or medical specialisation schools, except for MSCA actions
    • Research appointments, other post-doctoral positions, research contracts, RTT
    • Status as a salaried employee, either full-time or part-time exceeding 50%
  • Selection procedure: Through competitive calls or direct appointment (in any case following the publication of a public notice), specifically involving the evaluation of qualifications and publications and an (optional) interview.
        • Purpose: Research activities, as well as collaboration in teaching and third mission activities.
        • Position profile: R2 – Recognised Researcher
        • Duration: From 1 year to 3 years, extendable and renewable (up to a maximum limit of 3 years).
          When calculating the overall maximum duration of 3 years, periods of maternity or paternity leave or health-related absences are not taken into account.

        • Eligibility requirements for participation in the selection procedures: PhD degree (or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad) or medical specialisation.
        • Grounds for exclusion from the selection procedures:
          • Permanent staff employed by universities and public research institutions
          • Having held RTT contracts
          • Having held post-doctoral appointments for a period which, when added to the duration of the appointment covered by the call, is equal to or exceeds three years
        • Incompatibilities:
          • Holding research grants pursuant to Article 22 of Law 240/2010 (version prior to Law 79/2022)
          • Doctoral scholarships or other study grants, except for international mobility purposes
          • Enrolment in bachelor’s, specialist or master’s degree programmes, doctoral programmes, or medical specialisation schools, except for MSCA actions
          • Research appointments, other post-doctoral positions, research contracts, RTT
          • Any other salaried employment relationship
        • Selection procedure: A scientific and professional CV suitable for the activities of the post-doctoral appointment, and an oral interview (also possibly conducted in a foreign language).

        • Purpose: Exclusive performance of specific research projects.
        • Position profile: R2 – Recognised Researcher
        • Duration: 2 years, renewable for an additional 2 years.
          The duration may be extended by a maximum of 1 further year (only for research projects of a national, European, or international nature).
          The overall maximum duration is 5 years; periods of maternity or paternity leave or health-related absences are not included in this calculation.
        • Eligibility requirements for participation in the selection procedures:
          • PhD degree (or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad) or medical specialisation.
          • Candidates enrolled in the third year of a PhD programme or the final year of a medical specialisation programme may apply, provided that the qualification is obtained within six months of the publication of the call.
        • Grounds for exclusion from the selection procedures:
          • Permanent staff employed by universities and public research institutions
          • Having held RTT contracts
          • Having held research contracts for a period which, when combined with the duration of the contract covered by the call, exceeds a total of five years
        • Incompatibilities:
          • Holding research grants pursuant to Article 22 of Law 240/2010 (version prior to Law 79/2022)
          • Study or research grants, except for international mobility, doctoral grants, or emoluments related to medical specialisation contracts
          • Enrolment in degree programmes (bachelor’s, specialist or master’s), master’s programmes, doctoral programmes, or specialisation courses with mandatory attendance
          • Any other salaried employment relationship
        • Selection procedure: Relevance of the proposed research project to the subject of the call Scientific and professional CV suitable for the research activities envisaged by the call. Oral interview

        PROFESSORS

        With different levels of autonomy and responsibility, they carry out research, teaching, supervision, and scientific coordination activities. They contribute to shaping the University’s research development strategies, take part in academic governance, and ensure continuity, quality, and innovation in both scientific and educational activities.
